Thailand, Kanchanaburi: The tip of the regional human trafficking industry was exposed yesterday when Thai police revealed that a man posing as a Thai Monk had tried to sell his 14 year old niece and two other young Thai girls to a Malaysian agent.
Police in Kanchanaburi arrested Khun Prasit, who claimed being a Monk and went by the name of Prasit Theerapanno, after discovering that he planned to urge three 14 year young Thai girls, his own niece and 2 of her friends, to escape from the "Girl's Home" at the Department of Social Development and Welfare in Baan Thanyaporn, Kanchanaburi. Prasit Theerapanno further plan was to sell the 3 young Thai girls to a Malaysian agent.
Khun Weerasak Kwoesurat, the assistant to the Minister for social development and human security, said that the Ministry had asked the Kanchanaburi Social Development and Welfare Office to take care of the three young girls, and that the girls had now been returned safely to the "Girl's Home" in Baan Thanyaporn.
Weerasak Kwoesurat further said that the ministry was working closely with the Royal Thai Police to ensure that this case would be dealt with under the legislation relating to human trafficking, in order that the young Thai girls could gain full legal protection under the laws of Thailand.
He also pledged that the investigation would be extended to catch other people involving in those Thai-Malaysian trafficking networks.
