The deep sea port in Phuket, Thailand will expand it's facilitaties due to the ever growing number of tourists.

A mayor expansion of a the deep-sea port in Thailand's beach resort of Phuket is under way and the construction of a new marine pier for visiting tourists is being designed, a senior Thai official said.

The design of Phuket's deep-sea port has been drawn up and a environment impact assessment had been conducted with success. The new expansion project has now been put under the consideration of the Environment Committee of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Thailand, Khun Wanchai Sarathulthat, Director-General of Thailand's Marine Department said.

Beside the new expansion of the deep-sea port in Phuket, the department is also planning to build a new pier for tourists in the area of Patong beach, Wanchai Sarathulthat said. This new pier is aimed at facilitate tourist transportation and at the same time help to promote tourisme to Phuket, Wanchai further said.

The location of the new pier was set in the west of the island of Phuket, an area which in any case was not suitable for swimming and also wouldn't obstruct the pristine view of Phuket's beaches, Khun Wanchai Sarathulthat added.
