Bangkok Thailand: More than 2 million Thai people have registered with health clubs in Thailand to join the aerobics exercise publicly on Sunday, a Thai Public Health Ministry official said.

Permanent Secretary for the Public Health Ministry, Dr. Vallop Thaineua, further said that this aerobic workout would be organized on November 23 2003 to popularize a more active lifestyle in all age groups in Thailand.

More than two million people have expressed their interests to participate in aerobic workout sessions in Bangkok by registration through the 35,184 health promotion clubs all over the Thai Kingdom, Dr. Vallop said.

He added that this historic mass exercise in Thailand would also be carried out simultaneously in each province staring at 4.30 p.m. Thailand's ministry hoped the number of people engaged in physical workout would soar to 25 million from 10 million in 2004.

For Bangkok residents, they can join this aerobics event at Sanam Luang park in Bangkok. The ministry has further asked all participants to wear yellow T-shirts on that day to promote the activity and publicize the importance of exercising for good health in Thailand, he said.

Dressed in yellow outfits, people will be able to take a bus or even a boat free of charge in direction of Sanam Luang park. Free medical check-up services will be provided for over 35-year-old participants before the start of the exercise session.

People who take part in the health-enhancing aerobics exercise at Sanam Luang park will also have an opportunity to win diamond rings, round-trip plane tickets to Chiang-Mai, Phuket, and Surat Thani, and other prizes totally worth up to a million baht.

In other provinces in Thailand, the aerobic workout will be organized at hospitals, public health centers, and provincial city halls. The Thai provinces which record the most participants will receive memorial plaques from the Prime Minister and will also be awarded 300,000 baht for the first prize, 200,000 baht for the second and 100,000 baht for the third.
