The Ladyboys of Bangkok have been banned from performing at one of Scotland's toughest prisons because the prison warden fears that the inmates would get over excited by the performance .

The transvestites (Thai ladyboys show), one of the most popular acts currently at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, were branded "too hot to handle" and barred from putting up a free show. Officials at Shotts Prison contacted the Fringe in search of any other acts that they would be willing to perform to for the prison inmates.

They told the Festival organizers they would be willing to accept any other act for newly arrived inmates. But the famous "Bangkok Ladyboys" by Thai transvestites had their offer for a free show in the prison knocked back. They were told their PG-rated performance was the only act that had been refused permission.

Promoter Tony Wilkie-Miller said: "The Bangkok Ladyboys are very upset with this decision. When we heard that Shotts prison was looking for volunteers to perform free entertainment acts, we were among the first to enroll. I phoned the prison myself and initially the staff were delighted to have the Thai transvestites show in the prison.

The person I spoke to on the phone was blown away by our offer. When I told him these were the genuine Bangkok Ladyboys from Thailand, he was over the moon. But he said he would have to speak first to the prison governor.

I told him that there was absolutely nothing offensive in our Thai transvestites show and surely nothing that was likely to start a riot in the prison. We also have a parental guidance rating for the Bangkok Ladyboys show.

Tony said he was stunned when their offer was knocked back. He said: "We have been unofficially told that we are thought of as too hot to handle for the prisoners.

A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service confirmed they declined the offer from the Bangkok Ladyboys and further said: "Staff at Shotts Prison did contact the Edinburgh Fringe inviting acts to perform to prisoners in the induction unit of the jail. A number of Fringe acts responded to the invitation and will perform their shows within the jail".

"The audience they will be performing to are male prisoners. As such, it was felt a performance by the Thai Ladyboys of Bangkok would not be appropriate."

Yesterday, the Bangkok Ladyboys joined 2500 other performers in Edinburgh as a huge cavalcade kicked off the 57th Festival.
