Bangkok, Thailand: Oscar-winning Hollywood director Oliver Stone, shooting in Thailand a movie about "Alexander the Great", received a career achievement award, the "Golden Kinnaree", Saturday at the Bangkok international film festival.
Oliver Stone was presented with a "Golden Kinnaree" award at the closing ceremony from the 2004 Bangkok International Film Festival in Thailand.
A Kinnaree is a revered figure in Thai mythology that combines the attributes of a woman and a bird and is believed to be a creature that comes from heaven.
The 14-day Bangkok film festival in Thailand featured some 150 films from around the world, as well as conferences and lectures on the movie industry.
Oliver Stone is filming scenes for his epic on the life of "Alexander the Great", starring Colin Farrell as the Macedonian conqueror. Hundreds of Thai extras, and 20 Thai elephants, have been enlisted for battle sequences.
"Alexander The Great" also features Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins and Val Kilmer.
Stone won best director Oscars for his 1989's "Born on the Fourth of July," the 1986 Vietnam War drama "Platoon," and the best adapted screenplay Oscar for his 1978's "Midnight Express."
