Thai people are forming huge queues in front of the "Channel 11 TV Station" in Bangkok to receive free fried chicken and eggs, on this third day of an all-out offensive by Thailand's government, the Mass Communications Organization of Thailand (MCOT) and the Public Relation Department of Thailand to restore consumer confidence in the safety of Thai chicken products.
From early morning, representatives from Saha Farm, one of Thailand's largest poultry farming companies, handed out 500 kilogram's of fried chicken and boiled chicken with rice and another 500 kilogram's of fresh chicken meat, together with many styles of omelet's and chicken curries to the Bangkok population.
Not to be outdone, the Charoen Pokaphand Group (CP) Group distributed 200 kilogram's of fried chicken, as well as thousands of fresh and boiled eggs.
Even Kentucky Fried Chicken entered the picture, with giving away more than 1,000 pieces of its famous fried chicken products, while Chester Grill, another fast-food giant in Thailand, was handing out free grilled chicken.
The publicity campaign in Bangkok, which has drawn a huge level of interest from the foreign media, is due to go on until 6 February 2004
Yesterday, in a public relations stunt, Khun Banjong, representative of another huge industrial chicken farm had 24,000 giveaway eggs in front of him, 10 minutes later all the eggs had vanished as in a Houdini-style vanishing act.
"Our biggest problem is that the International Media is only showing horror pictures of dead chickens and a few sick people, which is causing this massive fear and panic among the general public, and has dealt a big blow to many industrial egg and chicken farms which are completely free from the Bird Flu disease", Khun Banjong said.
Khun Banjong also pointed out that many non-affected farms were in worse off than affected farms who are getting government compensation for the losses of the mass culling of all their chickens and poultry.
