A grand fashion show will be organized along the Chao Phraya River here in Bangkok for the first time tomorrow, when Thailand officially launches its "Bangkok Fashion City" Scheme.
Vithoon Simachokdee, Director of the "Bangkok Fashion City" Scheme, told an economic news program broadcast on TV Channel 5 in Thailand this morning that the organizing committee of the project would mark the launch of the "Bangkok Fashion City" Scheme with a fantastic event, a grand and spectacular fashion show along the Chao Phaya River in Thailand, the first-ever of its kind.
Renowned international models had been invited to take part in the very impressive Bangkok Fashion City event, he further stated.
The authorities of Thailand and international celebrities, including foreign ambassadors in Thailand had been invited to attend the grand event, to be held at the Royal Thai Navy's Conference Hall in Bangkok, the same venue in which leaders of 21 economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) looked on the spectacular Royal Barge procession during the APEC Meetings 2003 last October here in Thailand, he disclosed.
With the official launch of the "Bangkok Fashion City" Scheme, scheduled for 12-15 February 2004, the Ministry of Industry of Thailand has expected that exports of Thai fashion products would increase this year to around Bt400 billion (US$ 10,5 billion), according to Mr. Vithoon.
Thailand normally only exports fashion products to the world market worth around Bt300 billion annually.
The launch of the "Bangkok Fashion City" Scheme is in accordance with Thailand's government's policy on promoting Bangkok as a fashion hub in the region in the near future, and in the world in the foreseeable future.
