A new world record for the largest mass dive has been broken in Thailand this week when 750 divers took part in a record breaking mass dive just of the shores of Koh Tao island in Southern Thailand.
The Thai provincial authority hope this event will put the island of Koh Tao decisively on the international diving map.
More than 10,000 tourists traveled to the island of Koh Tao to witness the diving event, which was sponsored by the Diving Association of Koh Tao and the local tourism authorities.
750 divers from all over the world gathered on Koh Tao to take part in the diving event, which has officially been recorded as the biggest mass dive ever.
The previous record had been set 2-years ago in Australia when 590 divers took part in a mass diving event.
The director of the Koh Tao Diving Association, Khun Wichit Srisang, said that this record breaking dive event would help Koh Tao island to be recognized as a very important worldwide dive location.
The festivities surrounding the record breaking dive included longboat races, naval demonstrations by the Royal Thai Navy and a "Miss Dive Shop" contest.
