New direct Tiger Airways flights between Singapore and Chinag Mai to boost tourism in Northern Thailand.
Chiang Mai, the city in Northern Thailand nick-named the "Rose of the North", is to have major tourist arrival boost with the launch of direct Singapore Chiang Mai flights by Tiger Airways. Tiger Airways, the budget-airline subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, inaugurated its Singapore-Chiang Mai route by offering tickets at a bargain price of 6 US-dollar
The new Chiang Mai Singapore flights are expected to see a surge in tourist arrivals to Northern Thailand, where Chiang Mai is a very popular tourism destination among Singaporeans, with also a large number of expatriates residing there.
Chiang Mai, the Rose of the North is Thailand's northern capital and as part of the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) marketing campaign, Chiangmai is being promoted as the first cultural destination in Thailand and a city of unique handicrafts plus the gateway to the Greater Mekong Sub region area and countries.
Khun Juthamas Siriwan, the TAT Governor, said: "The new direct Singapore Chiang Mai flights will not only increase travel to Chiangmai, but also to other destinations in Northern Thailand, such as the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Lampang, as well as to the neighboring countries of Laos and Myanmar."
Over the last years, the TAT and the government of Thailand have poured billions in the upgrading of Chiang Mai's infrastructure and tourism products to accelerate Chiangmai's transformation into a regional transportation hub for Northern Thailand and the Greater Mekong Sub-Region.
In addition to the Singapore Chiang Mai route, Tiger Airways also has direct Singapore Phuket flights and optimistic about the recovery of Phuket island, Tiger Airways plans to add a second daily flight from Singapore to Phuket as visitors are starting to come back to Phuket's many hotels, spa resorts, restaurants as a tourism attraction.
