Thailand's Princess named UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador
Thailand, Bangkok: Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand has been named as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for her contribution to the "Empowerment of Minority Children through Education and through the Preservation of their Intangible Cultural Heritage", said the Director of the UNESCO Asian, Sheldon Shaeffer, at the Pacific Regional Bureau for Education.
For more than 20 years, the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has devoted herself to promoting the welfare and status of children and young people from various ethnic and minority groups in Thailand and the Mekong sub-region, especially those children living in remote areas, Sheldon Shaeffer added.
The UNESCO official noted: "In her new role, of UNESCO Ambassador, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand will advocate for the cultural empowerment and highlight the rich diversity of cultural groups and ethnic groups represented in Thailand and the Mekong sub-region, ranging from the hill tribe people in the northern Thailand to the sea gypsy and Muslim communities in the south of Thailand and in other Mekong sub-region countries".
